Give Him a Spoon

“When milk is splattered all over the floor and those little eyes are looking up at you for your reaction, remember what really matters. It takes 5 minutes to clean up spilled milk. It takes much longer to clean up a broken spirit.” -Rebecca Eanes

Last week, I gave Braun a yogurt pouch to eat as I was getting Harper dressed and everyone out the door.  (Gerber Graduates Grabbers, Fruit and Yogurt Very Berry, 4.23 Ounce (Pack of 12) if you’re curious about what he eats every.single.morning on the way to school!)

I turned around to find that he had squeezed all the purple yogurt into his toy grain cart.

Before I had kids and was, you know, a parenting expert, I would have told you I would have never put up with this kind of behavior.

But in real life? I just gave him a spoon. He laughed and ate from the grain cart and we left for school with the sticky mess still on the counter.

And you know what? The world kept right on turning and we all had a good morning.

My hypothetical children were better behaved, but my real ones are more fun.

Life is too short. Just relax and give him the spoon.
