Every night before bed, part of our prayers involve the kids making a gratitude list. I say, “Thank you God for…” and then let the kids answer with whatever they want.
I think that intentionally practicing gratitude is one of the most important things a person can do. In fact, I feel like nearly every problem in the world can be traced back to a lack of gratitude. That’s another soapbox for another day.
Anyway, I want to cultivate gratitude with my kids. So this has become a nightly practice.
Common items include Dada (always the first from Harper), the trees, and Mary (Braun has a serious Marian devotion).
I thought it would be fun to keep track of the other items that pop up on the list over the last couple of weeks. You literally never know what will come out of their mouths…
- Snakes (or steak…I wasn’t totally clear)
- Baby (Harper’s doll)
- Thomas the train
- Mr. Tiger and Mama Kitty
- Apple sauce
- Us (apparently not the same as “our family” as I was sternly informed)
- The sun
- Jesus, please make Luke all better.
- The fan
- The lake
- Aunt Elaine
- Painted walls
- The stars
- Our roof
- Blackie (new cat)
